Have you Read N.K. Jemisin's Broken Earth Trilogy? I really liked it but wonder what a connoisseur of Sci-Fi thinks of it. Also, I am definitely looking up your book rec for a friend.
So that is actually a good sci-fi : ). It does have a smart premise and could be interpreted in many critical ways. I know that it had great critical acclaim. I admit that it didn't draw me in- I only read the first one. But I acknowledge that it is well-written.
